The Slakaiya Rock Petroglyph Site is located in a steep canyon along the main fork of the Eel River. Mr. O.W. Degen first discovered the site in 1913 while surveying for the Northwestern Pacific Railroad line. An inaccurate plotting on early maps, however, led to the site being "lost" until 1993.
