Come one, come all! Get ready for some rail-related fun as Union Pacific -- one of America’s most iconic companies -- celebrates its 150th anniversary with a FREE community-wide event in Old Sacramento! History buffs, rail enthusiasts, families and individuals of all ages will enjoy a variety of special activities and attractions, a few of which include viewing the inside of the engineer’s cab of the legendary No. 844 (that has the distinction of being the only still-operating steam locomotive that has never been retired), checking out the 1960’s vintage Promontory baggage car that has been retrofitted into a state-of-the-art traveling museum, history-rich passenger cars and equipment, modern UP police and maintenance vehicles, and even seeing a hybrid UP locomotive up-close that provides a glimpse into the future of railroading. In addition, talented living history entertainers will perform throughout the event, free train rides will be offered on the popular miniature train, UP 956, and even free weekend excursion train rides on the Sacramento Southern Railroad (based on availability). And, guests will also be treated to complimentary entrance to the California State Railroad Museum, widely known as North America’s most popular train museum, which will launch a special exhibit that weekend highlighting the legacy of the transcontinental railroad. Don’t miss Union Pacific’s rail-related celebration 150 years-in-the-making!
