San Luis Reservoir: Kids’ Fish, Swim, and Fun Day
Saturday, May 18th, 2013 -- 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Los Banos: Fun will be the "catch of the day" on Saturday, May 18th at San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area. The 24th Annual Kids' Fish, Swim, and Fun Day, hosted by California's Department of Water Resources and State Parks staff and volunteers, will be held at San Luis Creek on the O'Neill Forebay. Bring the family and your fishing poles and enjoy a day of fishing on the "lake". Also, take your turn at the fun "fishing simulator".
Children ages 3 to 15 may sign in from 10:00 a.m. on. Free bait is provided. Also, each participant will receive free strawberries and whip cream, and other goodies. There will be free pontoon boat rides (weather permitting). Plus, kids may try "gyotaku" (the Japanese art of fish printing) and other crafts.
The only cost is the $10 state park Day Use Fee per car. Bring a picnic lunch or buy an inexpensive one from Los Banos' Hot Dog Heaven. You may also want to bring sunscreen, folding chairs, and a camera. Kids that know how to swim can bring their bathing suits. (There will not be a lifeguard on duty.) Also on hand will be people from Fish and Game and State Parks with crafts and information on local recreation areas. (It will probably be hot, but sometimes that day can be windy and cool, so put a range of clothes in your car to be prepared.)
To request a sign language interpreter or other auxiliary aids or services for people with disabilities, please contact Jennifer Morgan at (209) 827-5353 at least one week in advance.
This special recreation program is sponsored by California' Department of Water Resources, State Parks, and donations. It marks the occasion of the annual "May is Water Awareness Month". To reach the San Luis Creek area, take the San Luis Creek turn-off from Hwy. 152 at the O'Neill Forebay, and follow the signs. (It is on the north side of Hwy. 152, 7 miles west of Hwy. 5.) For more information call Jennifer or Howard at (209) 827-5353, or write Jennifer Morgan at firstname.lastname@example.org subject: Fishing Day.
