Description:
A midden, or habitation mound of several acres, provides physical evidence of habitation by California Indians who lived in this canyon for thousands of years before Europeans arrived. By the late nineteenth century, the site became known as the Black Star Canyon Indian Village Site after the Black Star Coal Mining Company that operated in the canyon.
