KERCKOFF BUILDING AND ANNEX

Description:
The Kerckoff Building and Annex consist of the ten story original building constructed in 1908 of reinforced concrete with white terra cotta tile exteriors and the eight story, but much larger, annex constructed in 1916 of reinforced concrete clad in glazed brick and terra cotta. The property was listed under Criteria A and C in the areas of transportation and architecture. The original building and later the annex were headquarters for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway Company's Coast Lines from 1908 through the 1980s. The period of significance ends in 1956 because nothing of exceptional significance occurred in the last fifty years. The buildings are also significant as good examples of Beaux-Arts design in Los Angeles.
