Overview

Brannan Island State Recreation Area is a maze of waterways through the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta with many wildlife habitats and opportunities for recreation, including boating, windsurfing and swimming. From October 15 to May 15, only some of the campgrounds are open, and that is on a first-come basis. Otherwise, in season reservations are available at (800) 444-7275. Camping

Willow / Cottonwood Campground: There are 10 accessible tent campsites that are dispersed through the campground. Sites generally include paved activity areas, accessible tables, water and fire circles. Firm tent sites can accommodate stakes. Restrooms, showers, and routes of travel to restrooms are generally accessible. Some restrooms have designated accessible parking.

Olympic Loop: There is 1 accessible RV campsite with water and electrical hookups. A sanitation station is nearby. Accessible restrooms with showers are near the boat launch area.


Picnic Area

The Group Picnic Area has shade structures with accessible picnic sites. Accessible parking and restrooms are available.

The North Picnic Area is located along the water just beyond what was once known as Sand Beach, a string of picnic tables includes several that are accessible. An accessible restroom and an accessible no-flush restroom are at opposite ends of this area.

The Windy Cove wind surfing area across the road from the main entry has an improved accessible restroom and outdoor rinsing shower. Benches and water faucets have been modified for accessibility.

Trails

The Brannan Island Loop Trail is a 3 mile accessible loop trail around the park connecting the campgrounds and day-use facilities. The surface is asphalt & concrete. The trail is generally flat at less than 5% slopes. Multiple accessible parking spaces are located at the park entrance, campground area and boat access ramp. Accessible restrooms and an accessible fishing platform are provided along the trail.

Beach/Shore Access

The Delta Vista Berthing Area has two boat slips that are accessibly designed. Subject to tides, the slips are accessible for persons who can self-transfer. Parking and route of travel to the slips, boat launch, and restrooms is accessible.


Exhibits/Programs

A converted trailer serving as a visitor center with a ramped entry is usable. Interior exhibit panels are generally accessible, but turning space is limited. Van accessible parking is available.

Fishing

As of 10/9/23 the accessible fishing pier has been closed to the public due to fire damage.
