WEOTT — In the interest of public safety, the California Federation of Women’s Clubs Grove Day-Use parking lot and road at Humboldt Redwoods State Park will be closed to vehicle traffic until further notice. This closure is necessary for public safety and access issues related to bank erosion affecting the parking lot and surrounding areas. The partial closure order will only impact vehicle access to the parking lot. The day-use area will remain open to pedestrians, but parking near California Federation of Women’s Clubs Grove is very limited and may require a short walk to enter.
Visitors should not park in front of any gates or block emergency vehicle access. To access the grove, visitors can park at the pullout across State Route 254 (Avenue of the Giants) which can accommodate up to three vehicles. Alternative day-use and swimming access in the park include Garden Club Grove, three miles south, or Williams Grove Day-use, seven miles south, where all vehicles are subject to an $8 day-use fee. For more information visit www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=425 or call (707) 946-2409.
The photo above shows the embankment slope failure at California Federation of Women’s Clubs Grove Day-use parking lot. Embankment instabilities including cracks, slides, and depressions are a result of the natural impacts of extreme weather, including heavy rainfall and flooding events.
