Update for Kings Beach State Recreation Area, Pier Replacement and Recreational Access Improvement Planning

Over the past several years, California Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) has directed design efforts to relocate the existing pier to the eastern portion of Kings Beach State Recreation Area (KBSRA) and improve parking and access in that area. Consultant engineers who are familiar with the unique conditions on Lake Tahoe have concluded that due to significant wind and wave forces occurring at KBSRA, the pier design, as originally identified in the park’s General Plan, is infeasible. DPR has currently shelved this portion of the project from future development, but remains committed to moving forward on the upland park improvements outlined in the General Plan to serve the people of California.
